Of Ruins and Romance

by
Rosie Chapel

On her penultimate day at University, Kassandra Winters inadvertently overheard herself described as “…too shy, too plain, a bit ungainly if you must know and rather on the plump side, not at all what’s needed for such things…Kassandra would be far more suited to a job in an archive office...” Worse still she was subsequently knocked flying by the exceedingly tall and drop-dead gorgeous man to whom this description had been delivered. Adding insult to injury she ran into the same man the next afternoon and, justifiably upset by what she had heard, refused to indulge his somewhat perplexing determination to engage her in the oddest conversation and gave him short shrift.
Fast-forward two years and contrary to expectations, Kassie is not hidden away in an archive office. She is in Rome; employed by one of that city’s famous International Schools, as well as a tourist agency. One day, while escorting a group of visitors around the ancient Roman port of Ostia, she bumps into the same man — the man whose seemingly random remarks still puzzle her — and he introduces himself as Gabriel St Germain. This unexpected encounter leads to a job offer, the role of assistant tour guide for a three-week tour of ancient sites in and around Rome. Unable to resist such an opportunity, and against her better judgment, Kassie agrees.
Kassie has intrigued Gabriel St Germain since he ran into her, literally, outside her professor’s office. Despite her rushing off the following day, giving him no chance to apologize for what she had heard, Kassie left a lasting impression and her face haunts his dreams. Never expecting to see her again, Gabriel is astounded when she appears right in front of him — as though destined to do so — in the middle of a ruin and, resolved not to lose her a second time, he concocts a plan to win her heart.
Gabriel’s old-fashioned courtship touches something deep inside Kassie and, although struggling to believe that someone as handsome as Gabriel could possibly be interested in her, she soon realizes she has fallen irrevocably in love with him. It seems he returns her feelings and for a brief moment, Kassie allows herself to trust that they have a chance at a happily ever after. However, just as Kassie shares everything of herself with Gabriel, her world comes crashing down and those callous words uttered that fateful day return to torment her. Can Gabriel save their romance or will it fall in ruins, like the relics of antiquity that brought them together.

by
N.L. Hoffmann

Casting Hell…one spell at a time.

Everyone seems to get a case to work except Sophie Dexter, but when the Witches' Council finally assigns her one, it comes along with an egotistical, jerky vampire that seems to have it out for witches. At least, that’s what Sophie suspects.

Riverdale, Colorado is where it all begins. Witches go missing, and then are found...murdered. What do they all have in common, besides being dead? They were all hired-and subsequently fired-by the jerky vampire and powerful software magnate himself, Drake Jacobi.

Sophie must go undercover as one of Drake’s secretaries in order to discover what is really going on at his company. Will her arsenal of spells prevent her fate from becoming the same as the others before her? Or will her own destiny be even worse if she falls under the spell of the handsome vampire?

Now you can have the complete Hannah’s Heirloom Trilogy all together in one kindle book

When Hannah Wilson decides to accompany her best friend to Masada, in an attempt to discover the origins of a ruby clasp, she has no idea how much her life is about to change. A series of extraordinary events sees her somehow connect with an ancient ancestor, also called Hannah, who is a Hebrew woman and a healer, brought to Masada by her brother when a group of rebels stormed the citadel in AD 66, killing nearly all of the Roman soldiers garrisoned there.
These three books trace the journey of both women, from Masada to Pompeii and on to Roman Britain as their destinies become inextricably entwined. With one sharing the knowledge that could save the other and those she loves from certain death.

The Pomegranate Tree
Hoping to trace the origins of an ancient ruby clasp, a gift from her long dead grandmother, Hannah Wilson travels to the fortress of Masada with her best friend, Max. Strange dreams concerning a rebel ambush begin to haunt Hanna and following a tragic accident, she slips into the world of Ancient Masada.
A woman out of time, Hannah must rely on her instincts and her knowledge of what will befall this citadel to survive. Will she escape, or is she doomed to die along with hundreds of others as Masada falls – and what does any of this have to do with an ancient ruby clasp?

Echoes of Stone and Fire
Pompeii - a vibrant city lost in time following the AD79 eruption of Vesuvius. Now rediscovered, archaeologists yearn for an opportunity to uncover the town’s past. Some things however, are best left alone - revealing the secrets hidden beneath the stones could prove perilous. Hannah and Max are brought to Pompeii by a surprise invitation to join an excavation team who are trying to uncover the city’s long history.
After entering an excavated house that bears a Hebrew inscription, Hannah’s two worlds collide and she falls back through time to ancient Pompeii. A place where her ancestor is a physician to gladiators engaged in mortal combat, where riotous mobs run amok and where a ghost from the past returns to haunt her.
Will Hannah and her loved ones manage to escape the devastation she knows is coming, before the town is engulfed in volcanic ash? Will she ever find her way back to Max the love of her life, waiting not so patiently millennia away? Or will echoes be all that remain?

Embers of Destiny
AD80 ~ Hannah and Maxentius must embark on a new journey to Northern Britannia. This harsh frontier is far from the comforts of Rome and danger lurks where least expected; a garrison of soldiers, some unhappy with their isolated posting; local tribes, outwardly accepting of their Roman occupier, but who may still resent the seizure of their lands.
Millennia away, Hannah Vallier finds a familiar item while working in a museum near Hadrian’s Wall. It is the pomegranate; carved by Maxentius on Masada. Before Hannah can discuss it with Max, disaster strikes! Believing her husband has been killed, Hannah retreats into the past, her soul melding with that of her ancestor, but with little idea of what they could face. Is the risk from the conquered tribes, or much closer to home?
As rebellion threatens to shatter a fragile peace, Hannah’s heart whispers that just maybe Max isn’t dead and that he is calling her home. Can she trust her heart or will she remain caught out of time, her destiny floating away like embers on a breeze.
